What the worksheet contains

Seven sections. Each one names what is known, what is estimated, and what would have to be confirmed with a supplier or a test.

  • Current-state source map

    For each part: where it is made, where it is assembled, where it is stocked, and how many suppliers deep the chain runs before it forks.

  • Lead-time and MOQ risk

    Quoted against actual, order quantity against build rate, and the exposure that sits in the gap between them.

  • U.S. stocking and configuration options

    What can be held here, and which operations, shaft machining, lead and connector assembly, gearhead and encoder configuration, inspection, can move here without changing the part.

  • Localization candidates

    Which components could realistically be made domestically, and which cannot at your volume. Stated honestly, including when the answer is no.

  • Required tooling

    What a localized version would need in molds, fixtures, winding setup, gauges and test equipment, and roughly when that pays back at your volume.

  • Qualification implications

    Each change mapped to what it invalidates: a first article, a life test, a noise measurement, a customer notification, or nothing at all.

  • Phased commercial path

    What happens first, what it costs, and what the decision point is for the phase after it.

What to send

A spreadsheet is fine. A CSV of the part list is better than a description of it.

Part numbers and annual quantities
By part, not in total. The exposure usually sits in one or two lines, and volume decides which options are real.
Current supplier and quoted lead time
And the lead time you actually get, if it differs. The gap between the two is the risk.
MOQ and last order date
A minimum order that covers three years of builds is a cash and obsolescence problem wearing a delivery costume.
The drawing revision you buy to
Origin and qualification claims attach to a revision. Without it, nothing that follows can be stated precisely.
Quality and documentation requirements
First article, PPAP level, certificates of conformance, change notification terms. These set what a source change actually costs you.
The plant it ships to
Destination decides duty treatment, freight, stocking location and which options are worth modeling.
The trigger
Tariff, allocation, obsolescence, a customer requirement, a contract clause, a second-source mandate. Each one changes which section of the worksheet matters.

Program, volume and destination detail (optional)

Lead screw, belt, direct drive, cam, gear train. Include the reduction after the motor.

Diameter and length, or the box it has to fit.

Nominal, and the range at the motor terminals.

At the load, after any reduction.

Continuous and peak, at the load.

On time, off time, starts per hour, and how long a run lasts. This is what predicts temperature and life.

Hours, cycles, or units of the mechanism's own work.

dB(A), the distance, and the background level.

Encoder, hall, index, current sense, or open loop. Name the driver if it is fixed.

Ambient range, orientation, humidity, cleaning agents, sterilization, vibration, altitude.

When samples are needed, and when production starts.

Where the assembly is built and where the motor ships to.
